First-open review

A timed sitting with twelve first sessions, mapped to the screens that actually stop people.

Observed sitting plus written briefing · Five working days · George Town studio or remote screen-share · Quoted per app version

Who this is for

Product leads and small design groups who already ship an Android or iOS app and can share first-session recordings (or allow us to recruit). You suspect the leak sits in the first ten minutes: a sign-in wall, a permission sheet, a tutorial that is skipped, or an empty home that looks finished to the team and blank to a stranger.

What you receive

A first-week briefing of eight to twelve pages. It names the moments, quotes the pauses, and lists changes that fit one release cycle. We include a timestamp index so an engineer can jump to the same second we watched.

We do not deliver a score, a heat-map product, or a monthly monitoring seat. If you need continuous metering, keep the recorder you already use; we read what it captured.

What is included

  • A planning call (45 minutes) to agree which build, which language, and which city of users
  • Review of up to twelve first-open recordings, or twelve recruited sittings if you have none
  • A screen-by-screen map of the first useful action you hoped people would take
  • One live readout with your team (90 minutes)
  • The written briefing and a one-page change list

What is excluded

Store listing copy, paid acquisition, backend performance work, and legal review of privacy policy text. We will flag a consent screen that confuses people; we will not draft counsel-ready clauses.

Who sits with you

Mei Lin Tan leads the sitting. She has spent nine years watching first sessions for Malaysian retailers, transit apps, and community groups. Farid Iskandar joins when the recordings are in Bahasa Melayu and English mixed in the same flow.

How the week runs

  1. Day 1 — Intake: build link, target first action, known complaints from your support desk.
  2. Days 2–3 — Sitting: we watch in silence first, then with your notes closed, then with a stopwatch on each prompt.
  3. Day 4 — Draft briefing shared for factual correction (wrong screen names, outdated builds).
  4. Day 5 — Readout and final file.

Preparation

Send a build that a stranger can open without a staff account. If the app requires a one-time password from a Malaysian number, say so before we recruit. Close internal feature flags that staff see and customers do not.

Constraints

We work in English and Bahasa Melayu. We do not sign results against a competitor’s app unless you have a lawful copy of that first session. Recruiting in East Malaysia needs an extra travel day and is quoted separately.

Price basis

Quoted per app version. A typical first-open review for a single language and a single first action starts at RM 6,800. Extra languages, extra first actions, or on-site recruiting in Kuala Lumpur are added on the estimate. See Fees for how we build the figure.

Next step

Write to us with the first action you hoped people would take. If that sentence is hard to finish, that is already a useful finding.
